He enrolled in Indiana University-Kokomo in the fall of 1981. A good friend of his, Dave Hamren, encouraged him to go back to school after he dropped out in 1983. Carrying a full load of coursework for the next two semesters in 1984-1985, he transferred down to the Indiana University-Bloomington in his junior year. He then saved enough money from taking a job at Hacienda Mexican restaurant as a server in order to travel to Los Angeles, California. He ended up settling with two of his fraternity brothers in Glendale, CA. and found work as a boom operator in the film industry. He worked on over 85 projects for all of the major studios and worked with many actors/celebrities.
