

Barbara Dean Quirk, 83, Kokomo, went home to be with her heavenly father on January 2, 2018 in Kokomo. Barbara was born on November 11, 1934, in Kokomo, the daughter of the late Otis Dowden and Marjorie Tarter. On November 20, 1955, she married James “Jim” Quirk, who preceded her in death on January 7, 1985.
Barbara retired from Delco Electronics after 30 years of service. She was known for her caring and forgiving heart. She would help anyone out no matter the circumstance. Barbara loved attending her church, Lighthouse Missionary Baptist, when she was physically able to. She enjoyed talking on the phone, spending time with her family, and listening to audio books. She didn’t have much in this life as far as material things, but she valued her family more than any amount of money.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Robert Dowden; children Tonja D. Jackson, James L. Quirk (April), Richard G. Quirk, and Patti D. Quirk, all of Kokomo; grandchildren Aimee Day (Dayle), Garry R. Quirk (Stephanie), Amber Hale (Phillip Jr.), Heather D. Quirk, James B. Quirk, Tiffany Lewis (Keith), Whittney Fording, Ashley Fording, Shawn Fording, and Timmy Fording, all of Kokomo, step grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Jack Dowden.
Family will receive friends from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Sunday, January 7 at Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church, 1300 E Barkdol Street Kokomo, IN 46901, with services on Monday, January 8th at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Fred McKee. Barbara will be laid to rest at Kokomo Memorial Park.
