Bernice “Sue” Blackwell, 91, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on June 20, 2026. She was born on December 25, 1934 to the late Albert and Bessie Richards.
Sue owned and operated Don’s Dairy Barn in Muncie, IN, and also owned two trailer parks in Okeechobee, Florida with her husband Don.
In the rhythms of everyday life, Sue found joy in simple things—yard work, flowers, and time outdoors. Okeechobee, Florida held a special place in her heart, as did being on the water, taking vacations with her sisters Polly, Kay, and Brenda, and enjoying trips to the casino. She cherished spending time with her son, Timmy Wise, before his passing in 2023.
Sue was a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion, and The Eagles, maintaining lasting ties to organizations that mattered to her and reflecting a loyalty that endured through the years.
Those who knew Sue knew she could be a “spit fire”. That same force, paired with her resilience, leaves a lasting imprint on those who loved her.
She is survived by her daughters Cynthia Lewman and Jeannie Rouse; siblings, Polly Tollett, Kay McElhone, Troy Richards, and Brenda South; grandchildren, Heather Lewman, Michelle Lechien, Regina Rouse, and Robin Rouse. As well as many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents and son, Sue is preceded in death by her husband Donald Blackwell, siblings, Gene Richards, Hazel Billingsley, and Mike Richards, granddaughter Ashlee Page, and brother-in-law, Bob South.
