Obituary of Brian Alan West Sr.
Brian Alan West Sr., 52, went Home to be with the Lord on March 20th, 2019. Brian was born to Pat Ramirez and Linda West on April 20th, 1966 in Kokomo. He was a 1984 graduate of Haworth High School's last class. Brian has been heavily involved in North Side Little League for over 35 years, serving as a coach, manager, umpire, and then Treasurer and President. From 1992 to 2000, Brian served in the Union Community Network Graduate and was the annual host. Also during this time, he was the SUPPLIES Volunteer Chair, which served over 30,000 children, and he continued to be apart of this to present. Brian was a United Way Board member for 10 years, serving Howard and Tipton counties, and was a United Way Loaned Associate. He was also named United Way Adult Volunteer of the year. He was a member of the Leadership Committee, the 211 Committee, and the VAC Committee. From 2010 to 2012, Brian was the Taste of Kokomo Chair. He has been the Emergency Food and Shelter Program Chair- he was an amazing Volunteer of the Year in times of disaster in Howard County. From 2013 to 2014, Brian was a candidate for Kokomo Perspective's Person of the Year. Brian has been the Vice President of the Good Fellows for the past 3 years. Brian participated in Walk a Mile in My Shoes for many years. He was involved in The Crossing and Family Services Association of Howard County. All of this was made possible for Brian through his union brothers and sisters of 1166 Casting Plant. During all of this, Brian worked at Chrysler for 30 years, as an E.A.P. representative most recently. Brian was a man that filled the shoes of many, a selfless soul that was available to all at any time and any situation. When Brian wasn't working, he loved to watch the Chicago Cubs and the Indiana Hoosiers, and would attend many games with his family. He loved to take his sons to watch wrestling. Brian was adventurous and loved to explore and try new things. Brian and his family loved to camp in Thorntown. Brian took care of everyone. He never knew a stranger, and loved to talk to everyone. Brian was loving, caring, and a Man of God. He was very devoted to his family. Brian will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Brian leaves behind his love, Kelly Sarver, his mother, Linda West; sons Brian "Junior" (Destini) West Jr. and Kameron West; many siblings including Gary Reid, Rochelle Duke, Bonnie Baker; uncle Gary (Nancy) West; many members of the Ramirez family including Bobby Jo, Isabelle, "Peanut" Ramirez; he was the proud grandpa of Hunter and Avery, and had several nieces, nephews and cousins. Brian is preceded in passing by his father, Pat Ramirez; maternal grandparents Ed and Elizabeth West; sister Lisa; aunt Pam; and aunt Diane. Friends and family may call from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 26th, at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. A funeral service will be held the following day at 1:00 PM, with UAW Local 1166 Chaplain Terry Linsday officiating. Brian will be laid to rest at Crown Point Cemetery following the funeral. Memorial contributions can be directed to Abundant Life Church for their parking lot, as Brian would have wanted.
