Catherine Baltuff Roy

Catherine Roy, 99, left her earthly home June 1, 2017 in North Woods Village, Kokomo, Indiana. She was born November 8, 1917 to John H. and Eduarda G (Keith) Baltuff in McCarthy, Alaska. She had been living with her son, James, since November 2011 after breaking her hip in a fall.

On September 18, 1937, in Pierce Co,. Washington, she married Lester J. Whitworth and later divorced. Lester died July 20, 1987. She married Raoul Marcelin Roy September 8, 1975 in Galveston, Texas. Roaul died May 25, 1990.

In the 50’s, she lived in Peru, Indiana, where she owned and operated a dress shop called Kate’s Squaw Shop. After moving to Texas in the late 50’s, she worked at the College of the Mainland in the ceramics department for several years.

Catherine was very artistic. Among some of the things she loved to do was paint, create cards, and make pottery. She had her own kiln. She was a founding member and past treasurer of the Saltgrass Potters in Dickinson, Texas. She made many friends through the club. She has left behind two close friends, Miss Nancy Lee, Texas City, Texas and Barbara Markey, Dickinson, Texas.

She had seen and done a lot of things in her long life. One of those was the love of fishing. She enjoyed fishing from her son Jon’s boat in Seattle, Washington. She was also an animal lover. Over her lifetime, she has had too many animals to list. Her last rescue was a rat terrier named Shorty. Catherine was also an avid book reader and would read a book in two to three days.

She had celebrated 99 birthdays, and had hoped to see her 100th. She missed that goal by 5 months and a week.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Florence Louise (Baltuff) Wood, Graham, Washington, and a great-grandson Cole Liggett Attica, IN.

Catherine is survived by two sons, Jon Alan Whitworth (Sherry) Yuma, Arizona; and James Thomas Whitworth (fiancée Jackie Hord) Kokomo. Grandchildren Lesley Karol Johnson, Jayne Ranae Loney, Laura Ann Berge (Paul) from son John, Kristin Sue Whitworth, Katherine Jeanne Moyars (Brent) and James Robert Whitworth (Karen) from son James. Step-grandchildren Christina Graves and Bryan Lackey (Kimberley). Great-grandchildren Lindsay R. Johnson, Kelly Ann Johnson, James M. Johnson, Jenna Loney, Brennan Loney, Nicole K. Berge, Michael Berge, Karoline E. Berge, Kailey L. Berge, Jakob A. Liggett, Cole T, Liggett (deceased), Kendra S. Moyars, Clay M. Moyars, Owen J. Whitworth, Cameron R. Whitworth, Kade G. Whitworth, Marlena S. Whitworth. Step-great grandchildren Matthew S. Koesema, Christian L. Koesema, Joshua Graves, Nathaniel Lackey, Caleb Lackey, Elijah J. Lackey. Step-great great grandchild Azlynn Ann Koesema. She is also survived by one sister Sarah Jane (Baltuff) Johnston, Purdy, Washington.

Catherine will be missed by all. Donations can be made to the Heart Association, or the Humane Society.

Friends and family may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Catherine will be buried in Logansport, Indiana at a later date.
