

Charles W. Byers, 81, of Kokomo, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. He was born June 3, 1931, in Kokomo, to Myerl and Myrtle (James) Byers. He married his wife of 64 years, Martene Porter, on January 21, 1949, who survives.
He served his country in the US Navy from 1947 to 1949. He worked at Cuneo Press in Kokomo from 1949 to 1978 then worked for Doug Davies Auctions from the mid 1980’s to the late 1990’s. He was a member of the Courtland Avenue Church of Christ in Kokomo. Charles enjoyed IU basketball and N.A.S.C.A.R.
In addition to his wife, Martene Byers, he is survived by sons, Charles “Chip” Byers Jr. (Anabelle), El Paso, Texas, and Bryan Byers (Dawn), Kokomo; daughter, Betsy Jansma (Mark), Monon; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donnie Byers, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by two children, Kevin and Teresa Byers, three brothers, and three sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
