Charles A Wright

Charles Aubra Wright, 95, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away in the early morning hours of May 25th surrounded by his loving family. Born May 30,1930, to William Eli and Nora (Ford) Wright in Sharps Chapel, Tennessee. On December 23, 1951, he married the love of his life, Barbara (Wisehart), who survives. They were blessed with 74 years of marriage.

After serving in the Navy from 1949-1955, he and Barbara resided in Kokomo, IN where they raised their children. He worked at various factories in his early years and retired from Continental Steel Corporation.

Though Charlie was known as a quiet and caring man, he was a gifted musician who could play various string instruments by ear. His focus was on banjo, guitar, and mandolin. Over the years he taught several people how to play banjo and mandolin. His cousins and friends shared his musical attributes and family reunions and get togethers were filled with Bluegrass music, and square dancing. In later years, he was a member of the Better Than Bad Bluegrass band. His love of travel and outdoors took him around the country camping, fishing, and hunting.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; children Stephen (Margaret) Wright, Tammy Cappoli, and Gayla Wright-Vaughn; grandchildren Charles (Amy) Cappoli, Stephanie Merrick, Stacy (Nathan) Allen, Devon (Dresden) Wright and Steven (Olivia) Wright; great grandchildren Kaelyn Jones, Madelyn Cappoli, Delaney Cappoli, Maverick Allen, Rosalie Allen, Easton Wright and Sylvie Wright. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Wilma (Wright) Glass.

Funeral will be held Friday, May 29th, 2026, at 12pm, at Ellers Mortuary on Webster Street, with burial to immediately follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may visit from 10am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Fairview Baptist Church, Kokomo, IN. They also want to thank Compassus Hospice Care, especially Marianne and Cheyanna.

Charlie truly was the encapsulation of a good man. He was adored by many and will be deeply missed.
