On August 26, 2026, Dan, at the young age of 60, left this earthly realm and was welcomed into his eternal heavenly home, where he has found true healing and peace. Daniel Joseph Rayn was born in Kokomo, Indiana on March 17, 1966, to the late Fredrick E. and Roseanna J. Rayn.
Daniel grew up in a generation with a dad that had a strong work ethic. He grew up where the construction and automotive industry was strong and at the core of the working class. He grew up when working with your hands and tools started at home. This is how he came to know and develop a passion for working as an automotive mechanic throughout most of his life; it all started because his dad owned Fred's Marathon Service Station. Dan would move on from there, but continued "Turning Wrenches", even after the station closed for more than 30+ years. When the automotive mechanic industry started to change and became more electronic and computer based, he decided to take a career turn. Dan decided to start his own Sewer and Drain company, known as "Rayn's Sewer and Drain" (a trade he had learned from his ex-father-in-law, Donald Isaac, who owned Don's Sewer Service).
Throughout life, Daniel had a lot of hobbies and enjoyed doing many things. Just to name a few, we would have to start out with his love for the races and race cars. This was something that was introduced to him when he was young and he spent a lot of time at Kokomo Speedway with family and friends. As a hobby, Dan loved working on his friend's and family's racecars as well as just being a spectator. He created relationships and friendships with many of the racers and their families throughout the years. Dan would always say that Dave Darland, better known as "The People's Champ" or "Double D", was one that he looked up to the most. However, when it came to NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt, "The Intimidator", was "The GOAT".
Dan enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing, camping, bonfires, and being on the lake. His favorite time of year was fall, and you would always know where to find him; in front of a grill or hog roaster, with a set of tongs in one hand and a cold Bud Light in the other hand, with a bon fire blazing near. Dan loved hosting cookouts and entertaining anyone that would let him.
We believe that Dan truly thought of himself as a part-time comedian; however, if you notice that never made it to his actual resume. He had a lot of humorous sayings or quick comebacks, but a couple that we can safely share are, "Ya know what I mean?" and "Are ya listening??" So much more could be shared about this...
Dan's life here with us may have been cut short; however, he is survived by his children, Nicholas (Amber) Rayn, Rebecca Rayn, Brooklyn Mills, James Rayn, and Ryan (Taylor) Rayn; grandchildren, (Nicholas's) Kaedon, Kohlton, Konnor, Kylar, Kheighan, Kynleigh, Kamdyn, and Kacsyn; (Rebecca's) Davon and Kyra; (Brooklyn's) Arie; (James') Audrianna; (Ryan's) Mason; (Katherine's) Natalie; sister, Autumn (Mark) Neher; brother, Clint Rayn; niece and nephew (Clint's), Brileigh & Vincent; as well as 2 additional nephews, Taylor Rayn and Jessey Rayn (sons of the late Fredrick D. Rayn); and his loving K-9 companion, Sapphire. In addition to his parents, Frederick and Roseanna Rayn, Daniel was preceded in death by his brother Frederick D. Rayn and daughter, Katherine Tolley.
There will be a visitation for Daniel on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, the time of his funeral service, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Rd. Kokomo. Daniel will be buried immediately following his funeral service at Kokomo Memorial Park, 1300 E. North St., Kokomo.
