Edward Lee Mattingly

Edward was a hard-working man with many talents and was often described as a jack-of-all-trades. Gifted with his hands and naturally resourceful, there were few things he could not build, repair, or figure out. Throughout his life, he worked in a variety of roles, including as a cook for the Rescue Mission and as a roofer for Complete Commercial Roofing. He later spent seven years working at Tyson's, where his dedication and strong work ethic earned him numerous acknowledgements and awards.

Retirement did not bring an end to Edward's desire to work or to help others. He continued using his skills as a handyman, often assisting elderly members of the community with repairs and projects they were unable to complete themselves. Helping others gave him an opportunity to continue doing what came naturally to him - working with his hands and putting his many abilities to good use.

Outside of work, Edward enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was a devoted Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed watching Westerns, Black films, and boxing. He also loved playing cards with his family, where the game was often just as much about spending time together as it was about winning.

Family was an important part of Edward's life, and one of his most cherished roles was being Paw Paw to his grandson, Jay'vier. Edward was a dedicated grandfather, and the bond he shared with Jay'vier held a special place in his heart.

Edward leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Darla Mattingly; his mother-in-law, Marva "Jodi" Embry; his daughter, Lejeanna Williams; his sons, Ramon Williams and Jimmy Williams; his stepdaughter, Jodie Murphy; his stepson, DeJuan Jackson; his grandson, Jay'vier Murphy; along with many other relatives, loved ones, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Willie B. Harris; his brother, Dennis James Harris; and his father-in-law, John Henry Jackson.

Edward's life was marked by hard work, resourcefulness, service to others, and the time he shared with the people he loved. He will be remembered in the things he built and repaired, in the people he helped, in family card games and favorite movies, and in the countless everyday moments that together made up a life.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, the memories of Edward Lee Mattingly- Ed, husband, father, stepfather, Paw Paw, family member, and friend- will remain with those who knew and loved him.

There will be a visitation for Edward on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Ellers Mortuary and Cremation Center, 3400 S. Webster St. Kokomo, from 12:00pm until the time of funeral service, 2:00pm. Edward will be laid to rest immediately following the funeral service at Crown Point Cemetery, 1101 E. Sycamore St. Kokomo.
