

Essie Lee Horton Sr. passed away September 2, 2018 at Community Howard in Kokomo. He was born April 12, 1946 to the late John Horton and Della Francis (Ivey). He was married to Phyllis (Todder) Horton for over 30 years before she passed away in 2006.
Essie worked for Townsend Tree Service for over 30 years. His favorite thing to do was play poker, whether it be at a casino or a friend’s house, he found a table to sit down at. He was a wheel and dealer, always looking for the next pick! In his younger years Essie had a classic car and always dreamed of having another. Essie’s main joy in life was spending time with his grandkids. He thought, wondered and talked about them all of the time. Essie was always taking care of people, and those people will miss him dearly.
Those preceded in death by Essie is his wife Phyllis, daughter Kay Horton-Owsley, brothers Bud and John Horton, sisters Doris, Louise, and Oni Beckman (John).
He is survived by his son Essie Horton Jr. (Misty), sisters Jenny (Dempsey) King and Bea Bolinger, and grandchildren John Morthland, Collin and Zachary Horton, and Logan, Matthew and Abigail Shook.
Funeral Services for Essie will be Thursday September 6, 2018 at 12:00pm at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel with Pastor Fritz Siddall officiating. The family will offer visiting hours prior from 10am to noon. Burial will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette IN.
