Gary Robert Reed

Gary Robert Reed, 61, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on September 1, 2024. He was born on March 9, 1963, the son of Raymond Reed and Claudine “Mickey” Reed. He married his high school sweetheart, Jayne Reed, on April 17, 1982, who received her promotion to heaven on August 7, 2024.

Gary was the most amazing father, doting grandfather, and loving son whose presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew him. He was a quiet and observant man who exhibited strength and wisdom. His love for Jesus and desire to honor Him was shown in the way he listened to and treated the people he was around. Gary’s commitment to his family was matched only by his enthusiasm for his favorite pastimes. Gary found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished time at the lake making memories with loved ones, fishing with grandkids, golfing with his son and brothers, and applying his immaculate handyman skills. His warm presence and passion for these activities made every moment special. Gary’s legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to his family will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

He spent the majority of his wonderful life devoted to his best friend and loving wife of 42 memorable years. After he retired from the United States Postal Service after 36 years of generously providing for his family, he and Jayne cherished traveling together to fun destinations that usually included the beach.

He was also proud member of the Local Manitou Lodge #1107. This membership was done as a proud Pop Pop to give his grandchildren the opportunity to play at the beach. This is only one of the countless things he did to show his love for his grandkids. His legacy of love and his enduring spirit will be deeply missed.

Gary’s memory is honored and kept alive by all of his favorite children, Patricia (Chauncey) Poe, Cory (Heather) Reed, Alexis (Trevor) Brookshire; 9 adorable grandkids, Dexter, Titus, Annalise, Tenley, Kollynns, Kade, Brady, Aubree, and Briar; his beautiful mother, Claudine “Mickey” Reed; his fun siblings, Terry (Marisa) Reed, Tom (Becky Vaughn) Reed, Kristine (Jeffrey) Coate; plus an aunt, cousins, nieces, and nephews. All of these he dearly loved.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Jayne Reed; his father, Raymond Reed; his mother-in-law, May “Carrie” Zinn, his father-in-law, Ralph Dumoulin; and his step father-in-law, James Zinn.

A Memorial Gathering will take place from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Ellers Mortuary & Cremation Center.
