Grace “Louise” Walker, 88 of Kokomo, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Welbrooke of Kokomo while surrounded by her loving children. She was born on January 19, 1930 in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late Herbert and Dorothy Engelmann.
Shortly after graduating high school, Louise enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving, she met Russell Walker and they were married in November of 1951 at Great Lakes Naval Base in Great Lakes, Illinois. Russell preceded Louise in death on August 19, 1970.
Louise was an excellent knitter and loved to crochet beautiful afghans, baby blankets, sweaters, and other creations. She also enjoyed playing classical music on the piano and cello, bowling, visiting the east coast, and researching her family’s genealogy. Louise was a great mom, determined to raise five kids after the passing of her husband, which she did a remarkable job of! Her children and grandchildren could not have asked for a more devoted and loving person.
Louise is survived by her children, Terri (Richard) Stanley, Karen (Jeffery) McCoy, Todd Walker, and Brian Walker; brother, Albert (Rita) Engelmann; grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) McCoy, Tim (Kym) McCoy, Stacy (Derek) Ralston, and Shawn McCoy; and great grandchildren, Ashton McCoy, Keira McCoy, Marshall McCoy, Eleanor McCoy, Cooper Ralston, and Chase Ralston.
In addition to her parents and husband, Louise was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Engelmann; sister, Carol Engelmann; son, Bret Walker; daughter-in-law, Kellie Walker; and father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Evelyn Walker.
There will be a public visitation for Louise held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 27th from 6-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 10 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Rodney Eiler officiating. Louise will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, Indiana.
