Harriet Ruth “Judy” James passed away on Monday, April 1st at Waterford Place after a short illness. She was born on July 12, 1930 in Kokomo, Indiana to Ward and Vallie Currens. She was a 1949 graduate of Kokomo High School. On March 24, 1951, Judy married Ralph Corey James, who preceded her in death in July 2007. She retired from General Motors in December 1985 after 34 years of service. Judy was an avid reader and enjoyed watching the Indiana Pacers and IU basketball. She loved tending to her plants.
Judy is survived by her sister, Jane Getz; three children, Stephen, Tim (Ahronda), and Lisa; and grandchildren, John Ross Rybolt, Casandra Liggin, and Stephen Liggin.
Judy was preceded in death by brothers, Wendell, Joseph, Bill, Fred, and Kenny Currens; sisters, Bernadine Currens, Charline Gruen, and Norma Fuhs; sister-in-law, Marge Currens; brother-in-laws, Richard Fuhs, William Getz, and Jack Gruen; nephew, Mike Currens; and great niece, Jamie McKinley.
Judy will be lovingly remembered by friend, Karen Windsor; nieces, Marty (Jim) Getz, Sandy (Larry) Pesce, Terry (Tom) McConnell, Pam (Bob) Fortson, Nancy (Larry) Hill, and Sherry (James) Giles; and nephews, Pat Currens and Greg (Kim) Gruen.
There will be a public visitation for Judy held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Thursday, April 4th from 1-3 pm, with a graveside service immediately following.
Memorial contributions in Judy’s name may be made to Kokomo Rescue Mission (321 W. Mulberry, Kokomo, Indiana 46901).
