Harris Wayne Simmons

Mr. Harris Wayne Simmons, 81, Kokomo took his ride on the “Good Old Gospel Ship” on September 24, 2019. He was born in Westmoreland, TN on December 6, 1937 to Garland and Liz (Harrison) Simmons.

He is survived by his daughter; Melissa Simmons, sons; Jeff (Karen) Simmons, Steve Simmons, Tim Simmons, grandchildren; Alyssa, Casey, and Jacob Simmons (who helped care for their Papaw), and other grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers; Randall and Roger Simmons.

Harris was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Lela Jean (Cornwell), son; Larry Simmons, brother; Doug Simmons and a sister Mable Perdue.

He worked many years as a produce manager until he hired on at Chrysler May 1, 1995 retiring on June 30, 2013 from the Casting Plant. He was the song leader and a Deacon for Kokomo Missionary Baptist Church. Harris’ pastimes include gardening, hunting, raising tropical fish, fishing, raising pigeons & quail and playing guitar. He enjoyed Pepsi, Moon pies, Sugar Cream Pie, and making others smile & laugh.

Friends may call Sunday September 29, 2019 from 2-6pm at Ellers Mortuary Main Street. . Services will be Monday September 30, 2019 @ 11 AM at Ellers Mortuary Main Street. Burial will immediately follow at Albright Cemetery. Pastor Larry McClain will be residing.

I was very saddened to hear that Wayne had passed. I worked with him for 11 years at the Casting plant. I enjoyed talking with him at work and seeing him smile. I called him whistling Wayne because he was always whistling. Rest In Peace Wayne, sure glad I was blessed to know you. My condolences to all of his family.
