

Herb proudly served in the US Army and was stationed in Japan. He served in the Quartermaster corps during his time overseas. Herb married Betty Cunningham on March 10, 1950 and together they raised two children: Marilyn and Mark. Herb kept busy throughout his life; he was a member of the Men of Note Barbershop group for many years as well as a Mason for the Howard County Lodge No. 93 for 70 years. He and his brother, Kenny, owned a DX service station in Muncie for a short time before he started a summer job at Delco Radio. This temporary job ended up being a long-term career before his retirement in 1990 as Assistant Chief Draftsman. He was a President of Kokomo Management Club, and also taught Industrial Arts for Marion schools. Herb loved to work outside and owned multiple properties. He owned a farm in Muncie that was passed down from his dad, a lake cottage on Sechrist Lake, and a condo in Florida that he shared with his son.
Herb is survived by his children Marilyn McCoy (Jim) and Mark Main, grandchildren; Greg McCoy (Megan) and Eric McCoy (Ashley), great-grandchildren; Collin McCoy, Eden McCoy, and Stella McCoy, as well as special niece Beth Smith (Paul) and special nephew Thamar Main (Sonia). Also, sister-in-law, Carolyn (Bob) Hadsell.
In addition to his parents Herb is preceded in death by his wife Betty Main, siblings; Thamar Main Jr., Paul Main, Kenneth Main (Vilma), John Main, and special friend Mary Lou Clevenger.
A visitation for Herbert will be held Friday, April 25, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery.
