James Wendell Downhour, 82, Kokomo, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born October 22, 1928, in Kokomo, to John and Mildred (Goyer) Downhour. He married Opal Webb on June 22, 1952, and she survives. They enjoyed 59 wonderful years of marriage.
He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and later worked at Haynes International.
In addition to his wife, Opal Downhour, he is survived by one son, James Downhour, II; two daughters, Terri (Joseph) Pokraka, and Kristy (Matt) Walden; one brother, Alfred Hugh Downhour; and three grandchildren, Taylor Pokraka, Ashley Pokraka, and Riley Walden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lynn McCully and Shirley Abel.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Ron DeGraaff officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
