

Jay F. Burnett went home to be with his Lord at 11:32 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012. He was born, in Gas City, April 5, 1921, to Ovid E. and Lydia (Goodwin) Burnett. They later moved to Marion. Jay grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1939. He married the love of his life, Clara Burtner, on April 8, 1955. They were happily married for 57 years.
He was employed at Farnsworth Radio Company in the service department until the Marion plant closed. He later worked at the RCA plant in Bloomington. After leaving RCA, he moved to Kokomo where he met Clara. He worked at GM in Kokomo for 34 years and retired in 1984. Jay enjoyed classical music, and his hobbies included electronics. He also enjoyed meeting with friends at Dairy Queen for coffee. He dearly loved his pet dogs; one special dog was Scrappy. Jay was a faithful member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer since 1974. He loved to serve the Lord by volunteering at the church with Clara.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Burnett; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wayne and Irene Shaffer, and Burl and Flora Jones; several nieces and nephews including special niece and nephew, Peggy and Frank Hawk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Fay Burtner; and a niece, Janice Cassidy.
The family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospital and Guardian Angel Hospice for all their kindness and caring during Jay’s illness.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 705 Southway Blvd. E., Kokomo, with Pastor William Allison officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Rd., Kokomo.
