Jerry Owen Akers, 76, Kokomo, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born June 4, 1938 in Kokomo, to Donald and Josephine Simpson. On September 30, 1978, he married Mary Jane Akers, and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2013.
He worked at Haynes International for 33 years, retiring in 2000 and was a Phi Del member.
He is survived by his caretaker, Tabatha Elrod who was by his side at the time of his passing; one brother, Guy Akers; special friend, Don Wappel; and his beloved dog, Genie.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and one brother.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Enis officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.
