

Joan H. Wray, age 92, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022 in the Bedford Hospital, Bedford, Indiana. Joan was born October 27, 1930 in Kokomo, daughter of William and Mary (Boyer) Haywood. She was married to Harry Wray on March 8, 1951 in El Paso, Texas.
Apart from her family, her major passion was teaching and children. Joan and her husband established and taught at the Wray of Sunshine Kindergarten for 20 years. She was always thrilled to meet former students and learn of the positive impact the school had on their lives. She was also a founding and active member of the American Business Women's Association of Kokomo.
Joan was an active member of the Kokomo Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday School, was a Deacon and board member. She was also very proud that her family had lived in Howard County for eight generations and because of her interest in family and local history, she greatly enjoyed serving as a docent at the Howard County Museum at the Seiberling Mansion.
Joan also loved fixing up the various homes the family lived in, crafts, and sewing. Her outgoing nature, sense of humor, and generosity was best expressed by her enjoyment of cooking and entertaining for family and friends.
Joan is survived by her two sons, Michael Brewster-Wray, his wife Tina, and Rick Wray, all from Martinsville, IN, her brother William Haywood and his wife Sandy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Wilma Jean Winkley.
Visitation for Joan will be Thursday November 3, 2022 3:00pm-7:00pm at Ellers Mortuary 3400 S. Webster St. Kokomo. Joan's funeral service will be Friday November 4, 2022 10:00am at the mortuary.
Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery Kokomo. Pastor Mark Stahl will officiate.
