John was born December 6, 1953, in Kokomo, Indiana, to the late Dossie (Cooper) Lane and Raymond Lane. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1973.
On September 10, 1973, John married Rita Whitt, and together they shared 53 years together.
John worked at Mill Banks for 19 years before spending 16 years at Chrysler, where he retired in 2008. He was a member of the U.A.W Local 685. John was also a member of the Izaak Walton League.
John was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting for sport and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed painting and drawing, working on projects, and fixing things. No matter what he was doing, he would always make a corny joke to make his family laugh. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle.
John is survived by his wife, Rita Faye Lane; his daughter, Kathy Ray (Adam) Duchateau of Greentown; his grandchildren, Savannah (Jordan) Ingle, Jacob Duchateau, Rachael Duchateau, and Adam Duchateau Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Olive Ingle and Dahlia Ingle; his brother, Kenneth (Konny) Lane; his sisters, Shirley (Bill) Sears, Judy (Phil) Burkhard, and Vickie (Norman) Reed, all of Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Faye Lane; his parents, Dossie and Raymond Lane; and his sister, Gloria (Jeanie) Guy.
John will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his quiet but strong spirit.
Visitation will be held at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, IN 46902, on October 11, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at the funeral home the following day at 11:00 am.
