Joyce came into this world, on September 22nd, 1933, born to Arthur and Violet Bruening in Skokie, Illinois. She graduated from Indiana University in 1956 with a degree in Biology. On August 1st, 1959, she married the love of her life David R. Huston, who preceded her in death on June 21st, 1997. Joyce is now re-united with her husband in a heavenly home where pain and suffering are no more.
Joyce held memberships in the KCC, Psi Iota Psi and Sigma Kappa Sororities, and Shiloh Methodist Church. She enjoyed family, traveling, holidays, especially Christmas, and wintering in Florida.
For many years, Joyce worked tirelessly to raise five, often rowdy, boys and once she deemed them to be properly schooled and fit to survive in this world, (all five obtained college degrees). She then went to work alongside her husband at Huston Electric, Inc., where she worked full time, both before and after her husband’s passing. Even into her early 80s, before illness intervened, she continued to work three days a week at the family business, and also served the company as Chairman of the Board.
Joyce is survived by her sons; Chuck R. (Dot), Jon A. (Jennifer), Steve S. (Tamatha), Jason B. (Jenni), and Corky M. (Erin). Grandchildren Skyelar, Ross, Matthew, Megan (TK), Mark, Nikki, Kelli; Carter, Vivian, Estella, Ellie, Anna, Cora, Michael, Sikwayi, and great-granddaughter Aeries. She is also survived by her sisters Gail Mersbach and Sandy Vollmer (Jim), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, those waiting to welcome Joyce into her heavenly home include her parents, Arthur & Violet Bruening; in-laws Donald & Julia Huston; Brother-In-Law Dave Mersbach; sister-in-law Marcia Cardwell; and nephew David A. “Davey” Mersbach, along with many friends and acquaintances.
