Julia Ellen (Lorenz) Shallenberger, 83, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on August 14, 2026. Born April 27, 1943 to Earl and Frances Lorenz, Julia will be remembered with deep respect and enduring gratitude by all who knew her.
On September 8, 1963, Julia married Roger Wilmer Shallenberger. Their marriage spanned 49 years, until his passing in 2012.
Julia devoted many years of steady, capable work as a Group Leader at Delco. She took particular pride in the life she built beyond her working years, often noting with satisfaction that she had been retired longer than she had worked.
Julia found joy in the simple, meaningful rhythms of daily life. Her hands were rarely idle—crocheting, cooking, and caring for those around her—and her love for family was evident in the warmth she brought to gatherings and the steady presence she offered through the years. Her faith also remained an important part of her life through Southside Apostolic Church.
She is survived by her first born son Nathan Roger Shallenberger, her second born son Monte Jay Shallenberger (Susie), and her third born son Rich Ryan Shallenberger (Adeline), grandchild Lily Shallenberger, step-grandchildren; Desiree Frias, Zackariah Frias, Tyliyah Mack, Joesiah Mack, Sandy Hilsinger, Michael Hilsinger, Johnathon Drees, and Christian Drees, step-great-grandchildren; Arthur Baker, Ayla Martinez, and Nyla East, sisters; Janet Hawbaker, Sherry Shrock, and Norma Miller.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents Earl E. Lorenz and Frances C. (Kendall) Lorenz.
Visitation will be held at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902, on August 28, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, an additional visitation will occur on August 29, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am. Julia will be laid to rest at Albright Cemetery.
