Kevin Daniel Schafer, 39, passed away on July 26, 2026. He was born on May 11, 1987, in Savannah, Georgia, and was one of five children. A resident of Greenfield, Indiana, Kevin will be remembered with deep respect for the strength he carried through life and the steady care he showed to the people he loved.
Kevin built his working life with pride and persistence as a landscaper in the lawn care business. He approached work the way he approached everything else—with grit, follow-through, and a determination that did not ask for applause. Those who knew him best saw not only his toughness, but also a thoughtful, kind-hearted nature, and a quick, well-timed humor that could lighten any moment.
More than anything, Kevin put his family above everything else—always. He had one daughter, Arissa Rabbits, and he held close the bonds that mattered most to him. He was his Momma’s baby boy, and he truly loved his momma, Jeanette Hascall, with a devotion that never wavered. He also dearly loved Bunky, a constant and cherished companion.
Kevin’s love for the outdoors was a true part of him. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being outside, and he loved traveling—taking in the Grand Canyon and the ocean with the same sense of wonder and boldness that marked his life. Fishing, especially, was his time—an “alone activity,” because no one was supposed to talk to him while he was landing “a big one.”
He also carried a fighter’s spirit in every sense. Kevin loved MMA, both watching and participating, and he pursued it with fearless drive, coming close to making it to the UFC. That same scrappy resolve shaped the way he faced life itself. He fought many personal battles, physically and mentally, and it is why his momma called him her warrior—a title earned through resilience, courage, and the refusal to quit.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Jeanette Hascall; his father, Dave Hascall; his brothers, Jessie Schafer (Brenda), Christopher Schafer, and Michael Schafer; his daughter, Arissa Rabbits; his aunts, Sandy Deig (Scott), Helena Fasbender (Jayson), and Carla Wertz; his nephew, Braeden Schafer; his nephews, Ryne Hascall and Nathaniel Grainger; his nieces, Angelika Pyle, Eros Lincoln (Nick), Ellison Schafer, Amanda Dupay, Avelynn Schafer, Lilly Schafer, and Svenja von Damnitz; his cousins, Sam Fasbender, Trista Roushar, Kyleigh Klima, Skyler Klima, Bryce Rose, Erick Frazier, Michael Frazier, Shannon Frazier, and Ryder Deig; his second cousins, Brelyn Shaner and Sadi Gazard; his great-nephews, Donnie Clark, Joshua Clark, Jr., and Kashton Schafer; his ex-sister-in-law, Ashlee Schafer; and his beloved pets, Bunky and Gigi (cats), and Sassy and Harlow (dogs).
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cindthia Krippenstapel; his grandfathers, George Coty, Carl Schafer, and James Biddle; his grandmothers, Jewel Schafer and Christa Biddle; and his cousin, Andrew Rose.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Ellers Mortuary & Cremation Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, IN 46902, on August 1, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm. There will be a fellowship dinner after the service at the American Legion, 129 N Independence St, Tipton, IN 46072, from 5pm to 7pm.
