Leatrice Mae Peterson Miller passed away on Thursday, July 16 at Century Villa Health Care in Greentown. She was born on August 10, 1929 in Freemont, Nebraska. Leatrice lived her early life in several states and in Germany while traveling with her parents, Vaughn and Ethel Peterson, and her siblings, Lila Schoonover, Clayton Peterson, and Terry Peterson, due to her father’s military career. After marrying, Leatrice settled in Kokomo, Indiana.

She was an important part of the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an intelligent woman who loved doing logic puzzles and crosswords. She was a kind, loving, selfless mother and friend. She taught her children the value of education, hard work, and compassion for others. Leatrice also passed down her love of laughter. Affectionately known as Meemaw, she helped raise most of her grandchildren and was adored by all babies and children.

She is survived by her eight children: Jamey Stewart (Dan Stewart); Carl Miller (Mary Miller); Kathryn Tetrick (Ted Tetrick); Theresa Larrick (Brad Larrick); James Miller; Mark Miller (Gail Miller); Laquita Hobbs (Vince Hobbs); and Tamera Connelly, along with her 16 grandchildren: Terry Copeland; Kelly Lowe; Ted Tetrick; Elisabeth Spero; Jamie Hines; Jason Miller; Courtney Miller; Allison Brown; Kegan Miller; Stevie Miller; Meikayla Smith; Evan Miller; Erin Fessenden; Anthony Hobbs; Justin Hobbs; and Cieran Connelly. She also leaves behind 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

We always enjoyed our times with "Sis" as she was sweet, kind, loving and the best Aunt anyone could have. I would pick her up from the airport and she often commented on how Houston was so big and freeways everywhere. When she came to visit it always was a fun time as we would listen to the stories my mom and her told about their lives growing up. The best conversations were when she would bring us up to date on my cousins and all they were doing. She was so proud of all her children and grand children.

She will be missed dearly but we know she is with my mom, her brother and parents in Heaven looking down on all of us as proud as she can be.

We loved her and will always keep her in our heart.

“Sis”, as I knew her, Grandma Lila’s sister, was always so cheerful and loving and had my back no matter what! When she would come to visit us down in Texas she always had stories for me and would always elbow me on the side saying she agreed with what I was saying even if the rest of the family didn’t! I’m very thankful that her and Grandma Lila got to share part of their later lives together and got to be even closer with us. We will miss her smiling face but know that she is in heaven smiling down on us and I’m sure we are giving her and Grandma Lila a laugh or 10. Much love to everyone in the family from Texas! Prayers to all.
