Margaret “Peg” Josephine Abney, 83, formerly of Kokomo died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at 9:37 p.m. at Carmel St. Vincent Hospital. She was born on July 22, 1932 in Tetersburg, the daughter of James Fredrick Ebert and Eleanor Rose (McCreary) Ebert. Abney retired from Kokomo High School after teaching business for many years. She was a member of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Kokomo and served as an Elder. Her passions were her family, gardening, cooking and taking vacations with her loved ones.
Margaret was married for 54 years to Richard L. Abney who preceded her in death as well as three brothers. She is survived by her sister Suzanne Spanjer of Fairbanks, Alaska along with four children, Kevin Abney (Kim); Kent Abney (Lori); Karyn Holloway (Mike) and Kriss Abney. She also has 8 grandchildren, Kristopher Abney (Tessa), Katie Abney, Stephanie Abney, Sam Holloway, Sarah Swaby (Ryan), Gabriel Abney, Aidan Abney, and Christian Abney; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 West Alto Road, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. The Reverend Jerry VanAuken will be officiating. Internment will be at a later date. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with the service immediately following. The family asks in lieu of flowers that well-wishers make a donation to their favorite charity or volunteer time to help with your local literacy program.
