Martha Maria Thiemrodt, 84, passed away on May 17th, 2019. She was born to Karl and Paulina (Rau) Grassauer, and named Marta, on December 9th, 1934 in Stuttgart, Germany. When her boat, the USS America docked in New York Harbor in 1954, immigration altered her born name from Marta to Martha- which was fine with her as long as she could enter America. A proud moment for Martha was becoming a U.S. citizen in 2000. Martha married Siegfried Thiemrodt on June 6th, 1956, and he preceded her in passing on May 13th, 1985. After his passing, Martha knew nobody could ever replace her "Siegy," and she would go on to dedicate her life to her children, grandchildren, and her pets.
Martha owned and operated Davis Cleaners with her husband for many years. After Siegfried passed, Martha and her son, Robert, continued the family business for years to come. Martha loved to shop for her family at TJMaxx, and knew all about fashion. Before shopping, she would visit the south side Taco Bell daily, ordering her favorite meal- the Crunch Wrap Supreme. She enjoyed everyone who worked at that location. Martha bowled for a senior league in Noblesville for several years. She was an avid animal lover, and always contributed to causes for animals. Martha adored her grandchildren, and loved to teach them all about Germany. Martha's favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. She especially loved throwing pool parties and making her authentic German pretzels and potato salad. Everyone will miss Martha, with her wonderful sense of humor and distinct German accent.
Martha leaves behind her children Linda (Edward) Wallner, Christa Thiemrodt, and Robert (Patty) Thiemrodt; 4 grandchildren Jennifer, Amanda, Michael, and Nicholas Wallner; her pets Willi and Mousche; and several nieces and nephews.
Martha is preceded in passing by her parents, her husband, her brother, Willi Grassauer and her sister, Erika Schultz.
Friends and family may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 21st at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, officiated by Louis Hillman. Martha will be laid to rest at Albright Cemetery following the service.
