Mary Elizabeth (Speroff) Drake

Mary E. (Speroff) Drake, 92, of Kokomo passed away January 4, 2019. She was born in Kokomo on March 6, 1926 to Pete and Nellie (Bailey) Speroff. Mary grew up in Kokomo and worked many jobs to help take care of her mother and father. In April of 1949 she married Ray M. Drake and together they raised a daughter, Vickie; they were together until his passing in 1996. They were members of the First Congregational Church. She began her career at Delco, then moved on to Solidarity Federal Credit Union, from which she retired after 22 years. After retirement she kept busy at Bowden’s Flowers and Raab’s Shoe Store. She enjoyed bus trips with her girlfriends, playing cards, crossword puzzles and reading. More than anything she loved her grandsons and cherished time spent with them. She was a classy lady who will be greatly missed. Mary is survived by her daughter, Vickie (Darrel) Helton; grandsons, Jason (Kim) and Matthew (Tressica) Helton; great grandchildren, Alec, Hayden, Mattie, Carsen and Kiersten, whom she was blessed to enjoy for a while; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Ray, Mary was preceded in death by her siblings, Richard and Jim Speroff and Becky Michael, and she will be reunited in heaven with her best friend Betty Savage. Family will receive friends Saturday, January 12 from 11am – 1pm at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 West Alto Road, Kokomo, IN with service to follow.
