

Mary Jo spent the better part of her life in Kokomo, IN and worked for Delco Electronics (div of General Motors) and was never late for work and rarely missed work. She was an early riser all of her life.
Until she was nearly 91, she bowled twice a week, went dancing at the Eagles 3 times a week and walked at the mall almost every day. She had red hair until it mysteriously turned white around the age of 95.
She is survived by her daughter Norma Hammerlund, Dallas, TX; Beth Reidhead, Bremerton, WA, Jim Barber, Santa Fe, NM and Phil Samuels, Plainfield, IN. She also has a loving niece Sue Saltsgiver, her son Mike Nix. There are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. Barbara Samuels, her daughter in law, served as her loving advocate all during the time she transitioned from independent living to assisted care and finally to hospice.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Emma McSwain, her sisters Ruth Marks, Myrtle Yule and Robbie Meeker. She was married to James G. Barber Sr., Earl Phillips Samuels and Russell Schultz who all preceded her in death as well.
There will be a memorial visitation for Mary Jo on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 12:00 PM until the time of memorial service at 1:30 PM at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 West Alto Road, Kokomo, IN. Pastor Joyce Harris will be officiating. Burial will follow to Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
