Melissa Kathleen Reed

Melissa Kathleen Reed, 52, of Galveston, passed away at 2:35 PM, Tuesday November 22, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Born October 1, 1964 in Kokomo, she was the daughter of the late Billie Shires and Marilyn (Allen) Shires. She was a 1983 graduate of Kokomo High School. She was currently a supervisor at Indiana Packers, having worked there for over 20 years. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her companion of 33 years, Chris Reed of Lafayette; one son Drew (Shyra) Reed of Peru; one daughter Brittany Reed and companion Daniel Woolley of Lafayette; three brothers Mike Shires of Kokomo, Kevin (Renee) Shires of Louisville, Terry (Mary) Allen of Indianapolis; one sister Mindy (Bill) Schultz of Delphi; and her in-laws Bob and Margy Reed of Cookeville, Tennessee. There are also four grandchildren Maria, Carson, Izabel, and Avery; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Greg Shires.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo. Pastor Greg Reed will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden, Kokomo. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, with envelopes available at the mortuary.
