Millicent M. "Millie" Cato

Millicent M. “Millie” Cato, 90, of Kokomo, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2015, at Century Villa Health Care in Greentown. She was born June 15, 1925, in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Thomas and Mary (Bain) Nash. On October 22, 1949, she married Uless F. “Jim” Cato, and he preceded her in death on August 9, 2001.

Millicent graduated from the Stenhouse Secondary School in Edinburgh, Scotland and began saving to come to the United States during World War II. At the age of 22, she left her beloved Edinburgh and came to the United States on the Queen Elizabeth. She arrived in New York City, on October 29, 1946, where she resided with her aunt and uncle in Stony Point, New York. She later married Jim, who was stationed at West Point, New York. After several years of traveling with the military, they settled in Kokomo with their four daughters who were the light of her life. She had resided in the Kokomo community for the past 62 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda M. Burton and husband Keith, Parrish, Florida and Shirley A. Pickering and husband Michael, Kokomo; grandchildren, Tracy K. Weldon and husband Dan, Columbia, South Carolina, Tiffany L. Peltier and husband Jean, Parrish, Florida, Benjamin C. Burton, Detroit, Michigan, Adam J. Pickering and wife Katie, Indianapolis, Brian J. Griffith, Columbus, Melissa M. Griffith, Kokomo and Shaye B. Henson, Kokomo; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Thomas Nash and wife Catherine and George “Brownie” Nash and wife Dorothy.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra L. Griffith and Kathleen S. Henson; and two grandchildren, Amber Marie Kaicy and Justin Michael Pickering.

Private visitation and funeral services will be held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Entombment will take place in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
