She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Guinn, her father and mother, Harley and Arlee Cross and her stepmother, Geneva Cross.
Monrie grew up in Albany, Kentucky. She was born on May 6th, 1931 to Harley and Arlee Cross. She had a sister, Kathy and a little brother, Jimmy, who died at the age of 4. She grew up in a loving christian home. Her father was a carpenter and also owned and operated his own hardware store in Albany. Her mother was a housewife.
She went to elementary and high school in Albany. After high school, she attended college at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN for one year. The next year she decided to continue her education at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught school for five years. She met and married Ernest Guinn. They moved to Kokomo, Indiana. There she began working at Delco Electronics and did so for 32 years before she retired at 68.
Her Christian faith was an important part of her life. She attended the same church her entire life. She was a member of Pathway of Hope Nazarene Church. In her time there, she taught Sunday school, sat on the church board, participated in Sunday school classes and Bible studies. She enjoyed many potluck dinners and special events. There is where she met some of her dearest friends.
Monrie will be remembered as a loving mother. She adored her children and grandchildren along with her extended family and friends. She was a kind, generous, compassionate, selfless, hardworking and independent woman. She always had the gift to make others feel important and loved. She enjoyed being with family especially our family reunions every year.
Some of her favorite activities involved entertaining friends and family for special dinners and events, like birthdays. She enjoyed all kinds of food and loved cooking, especially desserts and homemade ice cream. She always looked forward to planting her red roses and geraniums in the spring. She would often get together with friends to play cards or board games, chat and just hang out together. She had a sense of style and loved shopping and decorating her home.
She and Ernest liked to travel. As the kids were growing up, camping was usually a weekend adventure. They traveled to about 10 different states and most of them in the south. Their favorite places to visit was the Smokey Mountains and beach time in Florida.
Our Mother was truly a beautiful lady. We loved her dearly. We are so grateful the Lord gave us 91 years with her. Although our hearts are sad, we take comfort in knowing that she is with Jesus and rejoicing in heaven and we will see her again. As in the song by Vince Gill, Go rest high upon that mountain. Well done, good and faithful servant.
