Nancy was born February 7, 1955 in Sikeston, MO to Katie M. Baker (Kellum) and Roy Chester Baker.
Nancy Spent her childhood in New Madrid, MO, graduating in 1973 from New Madrid High School. Upon graduation Nancy moved to Kokomo, IN where she married, raised her children and made her earthly home.
Nancy was employed at General Motors in Kokomo, then GM Marion for 37 years. Nancy worked in Salvage at the plant. Nancy was a hard worker, and truly loved her job, her many friends she’d met and worked with. Nancy will be remembered in passing by coming through with that big EXUBERANT SMILE, inquiring about everyone’s day, and when asked always came back with BLESSED. Nancy was a proud member of UAW #977. She had many interests and hobbies among them, traveling, movies, shopping (“Fancy Nancy” was a fashion diva who loved to dress from top to bottom), cooking and trying new recipes, and spending time with her family and friends. Nancy was always open to new adventures. She loved and supported her kids and grandchildren in sports, always on the roads to their games. She was a big fan of basketball and football.
Nancy was a member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a greeter, and always willing to help out where needed.
Nancy married Curtis "Chico" Whisenant June 19th, 1993 at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church.
Nancy leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 25 years, Curtis, children Eric L. (Kioshi) Baker, Philadelphia, PA, Techelle T. Baker, Kokomo, Katisha (Salvador) Tehandon, Kokomo, Dion (Trina) Whisenant, Perris, CA, Megan Patrick, Marion, sisters Pamela (Randolph) Baker, Kokomo and Blanche Baker, Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Dominique Baker, Shanice Swygert, Iesha Baker, Jeron Gray, Tajiana Baker, Jeremy Baker, Demarrio Baker, Pashiens Thandon, all of Kokomo, Erica Baker, Isiah Baker, Ebony Baker, Isabella Baker, all of Philadelphia, PA, Jada, Ty, Jace Whisenant, Perris, CA, Carson, Josiah Whisenant, Marion, IN; great grandchildren Kyren Malone, Mylo Young, Kennedi Cox, Kokomo, Jesse Whisenant, Perris, CA; nieces Tapricia Baker, Asya Randolph, Khadijah Randolph, Kokomo, Rylan Randolph, Indianapolis, nephew Darius Randolph, a special sister-in-love, Phyliss Brown, who was a care giver, driver, family, friend all loved as one. She is also survived by a host of cousins, and great niece and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Roy Chester Baker and Katie M. (Kellum).
Services will be Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church (1599 E Sycamore St. Kokomo 46901) with Rev. L.E. Anderson Jr. officiating. Family and friends may visit from 8:00am until time of service. Burial will follow at Crown Point Cemetery.
