Celebrating the bright light for the Lord, Olive Christine Bates, 82 went home Thursday December 13, 2018. Olive was born November 8, 1936 to the late Homer Woodruff and Helen Fern (Van Voorhis). She married Glen Bates September 5, 1964 in Kokomo. He passed away July 2, 1999.
Olive loved coloring, playing card games, bingo, and puzzles. She loved dancing and aspired to be a dance teacher. Olive enjoyed traveling with her family and sight seeing. She collected bells and loved the way they reminded her of "It's a Wonderful Life". She loved old movies, musicals and especially the Joy that Christmas brought. Olive was a member of Family Fellowship Church of God for several years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
Surviving Olive are her children Teresa Hamrick (William), Nancy Marie Peters (Earnest), Nancy Jane "NJ" Miles (Tracy), and Wayne Bates (Michelle), one brother Jim Woodruff (Carol), 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Those who have passed before her are her parents, husband Glen, son Ronnie Lee Bates, brother Richard Woodruff, sisters Irene Tressler and Naomi Tressler, and infant brother Steve.
A Celebration of Life for Olive will take place Monday December 17, 2018 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel at 7pm with Pastor Randy Shinolt officiating. The family will offer visiting hours from 4pm to 7pm prior to the service. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please bring a stuffed dog so the family can take them to the residents of Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Peru, where Olive was a recent resident.
