

Onie Mae Minor, age 99, of Chesterton, Indiana, formerly of Kokomo, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Addison Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on May 2, 1924 in Marion, Louisiana to the late John F. Bowen and Verna B. (Bardin) Bowen. Onie married Lyle R. Minor in Louisiana in 1946, and he preceded her in death on October 4, 1992.
Onie retired at JC Penneys in Kokomo after 18 years of employment, where she worked in sales. She was a former member of First Baptist Church and attended Westside Baptist Church, most recently. Onie was a proper Southern Lady who had many lifelong friends. She enjoyed traveling, seeing new and interesting places and making new friends along the way. Onie had a sharp sense of humor who inspired others. She was an avid quilter, sewer, embroiderer, knitter, and crocheter. Onie also enjoyed reading books, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Surviving is one son, John Edward (Julia) Minor, of Westville; nephew, John (Ellen) Bowen; six grandchildren, Leanne, Christopher "Skip", Nicole, Travis, Thomas, and Johnathan; four great-grandchildren; and many other nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death is her loving husband of 46 years, Lyle; and two sons, Thomas Wayne and Charles Mickey.
There will be a time of visitation for Onie on Wednesday, July 5 from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M. at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 West Alto Road, Kokomo with Pastor Kenn Freeland officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Onie to the Dementia Friends of Indiana, envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
