Obituary of Paul "Digger" Erwin Pfettscher
Paul E. "Digger" Pfettscher, 91, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023. He was born on March 5, 1931 in Evansville, IN to William C. Pfettscher and Katherine F. (Wagner) Pfettscher. On June 15, 1975 he married Katherine (Perkins) Pfettscher who survives. Paul is survived by his children, Steve (Debbie) Pfettscher of Highland, IL; Katherine Levy of Granger, IN; Jill Jeffries of Kokomo, IN; Richard (Marilyn) Jeffries of Galveston, IN; Laura Smith of South Bend, IN; his grandchildren, Hannah Gauger, Karlie (Chris) Atkisson, Lena (John) Rudzinski, Walt Smith and Olivia Wisler; great grandchildren, Megan Gauger, Jaxon Prichard, Judith Atkisson, Sloane Rudzinski, Scout Rudzinski and Banks Rudzinski; and several nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Paul retired from Delco Electronics as a Tool Room Supervisor. He graduated from Reitz High School and also from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science. He was a licensed funeral director since 1954. He has lived in the Kokomo area since 1971. He and his wife received their private pilot license in 1971 and enjoyed flying together. He was employed as a funeral director at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home and Ellers Mortuary and Cremation Center in Kokomo. Paul was an animal lover and enjoyed taking his dogs and granddogs to nursing homes. He also spent many hours working on his family genealogy. Paul and his wife loved going to German festivals and he was a proud owner and wearer of lederhosen. He was an accomplished speaker, especially on the subject of Abraham Lincoln. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He belonged to Indiana Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Pals for Paws Animal Rescue, Howard County Humane Society, New London Masonic Lodge F&AM 283, Howard County Historical Society, Howard County Genealogy Society, and Golden K Kiwanis Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kokomo Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Visitation will be 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Ellers Mortuary & Cremation Center.
