Richard L. Cottingham, 83, was surrounded by his family when he went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, August 27, 2023. He was born on April 24, 1940 to Marble F. and Flossie E. (Graves) Cottingham. On August 5, 1967 he married the love of his life, Linda D. (Nelson) and she survives.
In 1958 Richard enlisted in the U.S. Marines in San Diego, California. He later received a Medical Honorable Discharge.
Before retiring in 1996, Richard worked for Delco Electronics for 31 years.
He was a hard worker and there wasn't much he couldn't do. He took pride in everything he put his hands on but his pride and joy were his daughter, Michelle. He called her "punkin" and "daddy's girl".
He loved his son-in-law Scott as his very own son. They had a very special bond.
Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting skeet, playing pool, watching IU Basketball, Colts Football, watching NASCAR, and the Little League World Series with his wife. He was also on a bowling league for several years. As of late he enjoyed his Sudoku puzzles every morning. He also loved to color, his coloring books looked better than a professional artist.
Surviving along with his wife, Linda are his daughter, Michelle Shook and husband, Scott; sisters, Norma Wheeler, Lois Shuck, Betty Flook, Gloria Ailor; brother, Paul Cottingham; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, James and Peggy Nelson; brothers, Raymond, Bob, Everett, Wilbur, Little Junie; sister, Mary Graves; brothers-in-law, Paul Shuck, Paul Graves, Ron Flook, Bud Wheeler, Jim Ailor; sisters-in-law, Alice, Ruth, Norma Jean, Ruth, Bonnie Cottingham.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to his favorite Paradigm Hospice Nurse, Jeff Louks who was like a friend to him and took very special care of him. Thank you to all of the other nurses.
