Robert F. Herkomer, 85, Kokomo, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Sterling House. He was born December 5, 1926, in Kokomo, to Frederick and Mary Katherine (Shaw) Herkomer. On September 27, 1947, he married Helen (Silvers) Smith, and she survives.
He attended Anderson High School and later served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946 on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. He served as a deacon at Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Helen Herkomer, he is survived by one daughter, Bobbette (Herkomer) Collins, Kokomo; four grandchildren, Robert Needham, Speedway, Laurie (John) Gutzwiller, Chicago, Illinois, Kristi (Dave) Heller, Spanish Fort, Alabama, and Christopher (Holly) Collins, Plainfield; five great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Vicky Needham; and one brother, Marvin Herkomer.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Holloway officiating. Entombment will take place in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
