

Sherman C. Shelby Jr., 84, Kokomo, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013, at his home. He was born December 2, 1928, in Kokomo, to Sherman and Eva (Dickey) Shelby Sr. On April 24, 1949, he married Betty Jean (Sweigart) Shelby, and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2004.
He worked as a mechanic at Libby, McNeill & Libby from 1962 to 1985 and later for Nestle Beverage Company where he retired from in 1994. He was a fix-it-up kind of guy who enjoyed fishing and helping friends and family.
He is survived by his children, Sherman “Butch” Shelby III and wife Ann, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Vickie Francis and husband David, Coral Springs, Florida, Allen Shelby and wife Josephine, Kokomo, Lynn Brown, Peru, and John Shelby and wife Terrie, Rushville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and sisters, Erelene Strange, Kokomo, and Janie Spice, Ft. Wayne.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford Shelby Sr., George Shelby; and sisters, Rita Rubow, and Sue Leisure.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Forsythe officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
