Terry W. Allen, 77, of Westfield, Indiana, completed his journey on Thursday, June 25, 2026, after a long battle of many health issues. Born on January 23, 1949, in Frankfort, Indiana, Terry was the son of Marilyn (Allen) Shires. He graduated from Kokomo High School before proudly serving his country as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps (Airborne) from 1968 to 1971. He continued his service in the Army Reserve until 1976. While serving, he worked toward his college education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Indiana University and later an MBA from Ball State University.
For more than 40 years, Terry dedicated his career to finance and healthcare administration. Beginning as a staff accountant, he worked his way to Chief Financial Officer, serving several hospitals throughout Indiana, including Howard Community Hospital in Kokomo and Healthplex in Indianapolis. He was respected for his integrity, thoughtful leadership, and sharp analytical mind, earning the trust of colleagues throughout his career. He was also a proud, long-term member of the Indiana CPA Society.
Beyond the numbers, Terry had a love of basketball (especially the Hoosiers), everything Disney, Corvettes. As much as he loved IU and Disney, nothing brought Terry more pride than being a dad and Grandpa. His granddaughters never had to wonder if he'd be there. If there was a game, match, or special event, he was cheering them on. Showing up for the people he loved simply wasn't something Terry did, it was who he was. He had a playful, goofy side that could make people laugh when they least expected it, and beneath that was someone steady, dependable, and deeply devoted to the people he loved. Making lasting memories was at the core of Terry, taking the family (and often friends) on annual beach vacations, countless Disney World trips, and even a few Hawaii trips, and other areas of North America, making lifetime experiences and doing it all out of a generous love for family.
Terry is preceded in death by his first wife of 20 years, Cheryl (Utter) Allen, his mother, Marilyn (Allen) Shires, a sister, Melissa (Shires) Reed, and a brother, Greg Shires. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary (Gentry) Allen, only daughter Heather (Allen) Raymond, son-in-law, Michael Raymond, granddaughters Maya, Alana and Ayla Raymond, stepsons, Jeremiah and Nathaniel Clark, sister Melinda (Bill) Schultz, brothers Michael and Kevin Shires, and multiple nieces and nephews, cousins and one uncle.
A memorial service celebrating Terry's life will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A veterans committal service will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park.
If you are joining us for the services, we'd love for you to wear cream and crimson, your favorite IU gear, or even something Disney. Let’s keep it casual but put together. After the service, everyone is invited to stay for a meal, share stories, laugh a little, and celebrate a life that was filled with love, generosity, and unforgettable memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local food bank in Terry's memory. If you'd like to honor Terry, spend time with the people you love. Plan the vacation. Go to the game. Make the Disney trip. Share a meal. Remember to be Goofy.
