

Willie “Ruth” Alexander, 84, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at North Woods Village in Kokomo. She was born on December 29, 1932 in Port Gibson, Mississippi to the late James Alexander and Mary (Martin) Eddington.
Following high school, Ruth spent some time living in New York and Boston, and then moved to Kokomo to work at her mother’s restaurant, Mary’s Café. After working for her mother’s business, Ruth found work at Chrysler and was employed there for over 25 years before retiring in December of 1998. Ruth was a member of the UAW Local 685 in Kokomo and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Most of all, Ruth loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her 2 daughters, Charline Alexander and Sharon (Jimmy) McCarty; son, Charles Alexander; brother, James (Mary) Alexander; special son, Wilford (Arlene) Morland; grandchildren, Saracco Morland, Shawana Morland, Dont’e (Tukesha) Smoot, Territa Alexander, Shereana (Brian) Morgan, Marcus Alexander, Marcell (Mikell) Alexander, Dedric Small, and Faizon Lynch; great-grandchildren, Sartavia (Keilo) Lawson, Kyle Morland, Parrish Jones, Sarnaya Morland, Audreona Dacons, Jarah Dacons, Khairi Floyd, Dont’e Smoot Jr., Amonte Green, Marzjhuan Green, Damere Smoot, Aaleyah Alexander, and Mekhi Coleman; 4 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Marilyn Moore and Charmaine (James) Kent; and goddaughter, Wanetta Pigg.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Smoot.
A public visitation for Ruth will be held on Saturday, September 16th from 9-11 a.m. at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home in Kokomo. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 at the funeral home.
