October 16, 1955 – September 15, 2026
With profound sadness and loving hearts, we announce the passing of Donna Russell Christian, who passed
away on September 15, 2026, at the age of 70.
Donna was born on October 16, 1955, in Columbia, South Carolina, to John Otis Russell and Pearl Coker.
She was a beloved wife, daughter and sister and friend whose life was defined by love, compassion, and
service to others.
In 1985, Donna moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she began her career as a surgical nurse.
Caring for others was more than a profession to Donna—it was a calling. Her compassion, dedication, and
gentle spirit touched the lives of many people throughout her years in healthcare. Donna taught many that
give her credit for their career today.
In 1995, Donna followed her heart to the beautiful island of Kauai, Hawaii, where she continued her nursing
career in ophthalmology. Kauai became her home, and she embraced the beauty, people, and aloha of the
island. She continued to care for others with the same kindness and dedication that had guided her throughout
her career.
Donna is survived by her beloved husband, Kaipo Christian; her step-son Keola Christian and his partner,
Jennifer; and her cherished nephew, Jotis Russell-Christian (whom she helped raise), and her cherished
grandchildren Lokahi Christian and step grandchildren Kainalu Kapu and Makani Kapu. She is also
survived by her sister, Terri, and her brothers, Bruce and Charles and his wife, Mary, as well as her nieces
and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, John Otis Russell and Pearl Coker; her brother, Wayne
Russell; Wayne's wife, Sherrin Russell; her brother Bruce's wife, Wanda Russell; and her nephew, Todd
Russell.
Donna will be remembered for her caring heart, her dedication to helping others, her love for her family, and
the beautiful life she built from South Carolina to North Carolina and ultimately to her beloved Kauai.
Her legacy lives on through the family she loved so deeply and the many people whose lives she touched
through her years of caring for others.
Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we are grateful for the years we were blessed to have her with
us. The memories she created, the love she gave, and the lives she touched will remain forever.
Rest peacefully, Donna, we love you. May you be surrounded by love and aloha, and may your spirit
forever remain in the hearts of those who love you.
Until we meet again, you will be deeply loved, dearly missed, and forever remembered.
