
Glenn Hamberg, of Poipu, Kauai, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, surrounded by his children, their spouses, and grandchildren.
Glenn grew up and went to high school in New York where he excelled in academics and was an outstanding athlete in football, wrestling, and track and field.
Glenn was one of 5 MICTs (Mobile Intensive Care Technicians) to start Kauai’s first ambulance in partnership with Wilcox Hospital Physicians in the mid-seventies after training both in California and Oahu. He led the way to establish reciprocity for the rural island of Kauai to have paramedics included in emergency service. He became part of the only team in the state with the entire staff certified as MICTs.
Glenn was the longtime Director of Kauai Community College’s EMS Department. He conducted the First Responder training for the Fire and Police Departments for the State of Hawaii, and he held a leadership role within the American Heart Association for many years.
Glenn is survived by his 4 children, daughter-in-law, 2 sons-in-law, 11 grandchildren, 3 siblings and their spouses, nephews and nieces and their spouses, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Kukuiolono Golf Course Pavilion on Monday, June 29, open-house style from 3 to 5:30 p.m. with a service and prayer at 4 p.m.
