Harry McCarthy of Koloa, HI passed away on January 8, 2024. He was born February 24, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA to Harry J. “Pat” and Helen (née Naulty) McCarthy. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. and Seattle, as a King County Superior Court judge in Seattle, and as a Commissioner on the Hawaii State Ethics Commission while in Kaua’i. He graduated from Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, CA in 1958, and St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA in 1962, and earned his law degree at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA in 1965.
He was married to Carole (née Parenti) in 1962 and together they enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
Together they travelled the world. He loved baseball and the occasional game of golf. In 2017 they finally settled in Koloa, on their beloved island of Kaua’i, where, appointed by the governor, he served as a commissioner on the Hawaii State Ethics Commission until his end.
Harry is survived by his wife, Carole, daughter Michelle Beck (Roger), grandchildren Paul Humphries, Harry Humphries (Angela Neice), and Katy Humphries, sister Agnes Collins, and many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and former colleagues. He is predeceased by his parents, his son Christopher, and siblings Robert, Donald and Patricia. A funeral mass, followed by an inurnment ceremony and celebration of his life, will be held at St. James Cathedral in Seattle, where he was a parishioner for 40 years.
