Alice's children, David, Kathy and Linda, along with the rest of our family and friends are heartbroken from her loss.
Alice was a proud daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother of 8 and great grandmother of 10. She was also a wonderful friend to the many who knew her.
In her early years, Alice worked in finances as a payroll administrator. She worked at a bank and then she moved to Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) then to USAir as their payroll administrator.
During her professional years, she met and married Phil Plouffe who was in the Navy at the time. Phil proudly served a 22-year career for our country as a photographer in the Navy. Mom was most supportive and proud of our dad during and after his Navy career.
When she left her professional career, Alice started volunteering and working for different groups. Some of these include Breast Cancer Awareness, the Registrar of Voters, Meals on Wheels, she was a Mystery Shopper, she listened to 1st graders read to her, she was a civilian volunteer for the La Mesa Police Department calling senior citizens as a welfare check. She and Phil volunteered as nature guides for the blind. She was a "mail lady" for a nursing home and she even reorganized greeting card displays in stores.
Mom was generous to a fault. She would tip any service person who helped her and she was hospitable to those who knew her. She was a fantastic cook and was most festive during the holidays.
In her early years, Alice enjoyed bowling (with her fancy approach, step, skip and a jump) and bicycle riding and water skiing. Later on she enjoyed family gatherings, parties, and social events. BINGO at Sycuan was one of her favorite past-times.
Mom and Dad supported us the best way they could for anything we were doing. She helped us in our times of need or when we just wanted to talk. We all returned their favors in different ways but we could never repay them for all they did for us.
Kathy gave them pleasure by visiting with many grandkids and fun stuff, Linda helped by cooking some fantastic meals and helping them with their cellphones, various paperwork and their medical needs and David helped with projects around the house and small repairs, and we all shared in conversation.
Before our Dad passed in August 2025 at home, and although she was enduring her own ailments, she was his angel. She was so organized with everything and made sure he did what he was supposed to do and eat what he was supposed to eat. She kept track of everything. Their appointments and medication, vitals, symptoms and you name it, she recorded it. Alice was a dynamo!
We believe that, with her help, Dad lasted much longer than expected and with her strength and determination, she enjoyed life longer than many others. In her final months and weeks, Alice made so many new friends at her senior living complex. They all loved her. They both passed in the comfort, warmth and love of their homes.
During her later months and then weeks, her breathing got more difficult but she knew what to do. It got to the point that David, Kathy, and Linda decided to take shifts and stay with her 24/7. We were also able to arrange for nurses to stay with her temporarily. She tried her best to maintain her composure and enjoy those who visited. Despite her discomfort, she maintained her sense of humor.
Unfortunately, in the early morning hours of April 27th, Mom went to be with Dad and our Lord. Her passing was peaceful as she slept and with family at her side.
Alice is survived by her three children, David, Kathy and Linda, her sister Cathy and her brother John, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren and many other extended family members.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Santa Selvaggio, her brother Joe and her husband of 53 years, Philip.
We are all greatly saddened by losing our beautiful mother and so soon after losing our wonderful dad. Only 8 months. Alice really missed her love. She is no longer in pain and she is with her loving husband again. She will be interned with him at Miramar National Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 22, 2026 at 10AM at Erickson-Anderson Mortuary, 8390 Allison Ave. La Mesa. Please join us to celebrate Alice’s Life.
A private service for her internment will be held shortly after.
Rest in Peace Mom and enjoy your time with Dad. You both are loved by many.
