OBITUARY

Christine Annelle Kelso

October 18, 1958January 14, 2021

Christine Annelle Kelso was born on October 18th, 1958 in La Mesa, Ca to Gerald Lee Kasl and Josephine Kasl (Sotelo). She was the fourth child born of ten children. She grew up in Spring Valley, Ca and attended Monte Vista High School where she graduated in 1977. She met the love of her life, John (Fred) Kelso in 1985. The first time they met, Christine said “I’m going to marry that man” before they even talked! Well she knew right, they married in 1986 and shortly after had their first daughter, Valerie, together. About a year and half later, in 1988, they welcomed their second daughter, Angela into the world. Christine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Josephine Kasl, her brothers David and Michael, and her sister Diane. She is survived by her husband Fred Kelso, 6 siblings; Phillip, Sharon, Gary, Karen, Kevin and Janet, her 2 children Valerie Haas (Shane Haas) and Angela Kelso (Chris Singer), and 5 grandchildren; Anderson, Abigail, Ashton, Axel and Shane Jr. Despite suffering a stroke in 1994, Christine regained much of her independence. Shortly after her stroke, she moved in with her parents for a short time and they helped to rehabilitate her and get her back on her feet. When she came home, her mother-in-law Evelyn Kelso moved in to help the family and together they cooked meals, completed housekeeping, and ran errands while Fred worked. The three of them together raised the girls. As they say, it takes a village! Fred and Christine’s home was always a place for family gatherings and was a neighborhood hot spot for her daughter’s friends when they were growing up. She welcomed everyone with open arms, was always warm and inviting, and loved to feed everybody. If you didn’t try her homemade refried beans or spaghetti sauce then you weren’t eating! She had a laugh that was so contagious, a love that was fierce, and the warmest heart you’ve ever known. Everyone that knew her or met her loved her and the fact that she always had her home and heart wide open. Christine was residing in Boulevard, Ca with her husband and her sister Karen before she passed. She loved watching all the wildlife in her yard and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels with her sister. Perhaps her most favorite thing of all to do was spend time with her children and grandchildren. She loved taking the grandkids on rides on her wheelchair and had dreams of having a racetrack built in her yard for them to race their bikes around! Christine will be missed beyond measure. She would want all of us to remember the good times and memories we shared together. She loved laughing and reminiscing about the good ol’ days and she would want us to do the same. She may be gone from this earth, but will never be forgotten. Let’s make her proud until we meet her again in heaven. We know she is dancing around up there with her parents, siblings and other family and friends that we have lost along the way. May her beautiful soul rest in paradise.

Ive known Mrs.Kelso since I was a little girl. I met her through Valerie, we became best friends in kindergarten. Valerie, Angela and me were pretty much sister. Christine was an amazing lady. Always made you laugh. She was truly one of a kind. I love her and her family like my own blood. Spending the night at her house was always the best memories. Her hugs and smiles always made your day brighter. She will be missed and always be in my heart. And her food and coffee was the best.

Growing up, Christine was like another mom to me. Living two houses down, I spent a lot of time in the Kelso house. I have many memories of Christine over the years but my favorite was in the mornings after I’d spent the night, her asking me to help her get her coffee ready. Always a hefty amount of Coffeemate, and she would always tell me to make myself some as well. We’d sit and chit chat and giggle. She made the BEST salsa, that you ALWAYS had to try.
Another fond memory would be Angela ticking the backside of her arm, which would drive her crazy and she would inevitably smack us with her cane.

Christine, you will be missed. Thank you for being a surrogate mom to me growing up. ❤️
