Dan Bledsoe died of complications from COPD and pneumonia at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully at home with his children nearby. He was born in Salt Lake City and raised in San Francisco. After graduating from Galileo High School he served with the Marine Corps in Korea, fighting in the Chosin Reservoir battle.
He was appointed a Special Agent with the FBI after graduating from the University of San Francisco in 1955, and later received a Master of Arts degree from Pepperdine University.Dan's FBI career included cases involving bank robbery and aircraft hijacking, serving in the Houston and Chicago field offices. He was then assigned to FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. His best known case was initiating the investigation into the Watergate break-in. He then became a faculty member at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, and later transferred to the San Diego field office, retiring in 1980.Dan was an equestrian; he enjoyed 3-day events and fox hunting. During the 1984 Olympics he was a managing member of the equestrian cross-country competition held at Fairbanks Ranch. He was a member of the Chosin Few and the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI.
He is survived by his children Paul and Susanne, and predeceased by his wife Bette.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 7 at Erickson-Anderson Mortuary in La Mesa. Burial will be in Salt Lake City.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Salvation Army.
