

Gardner Hart Munday, passed away April 1st, 2016, on his 92nd birthday. Born and raised in San Diego, he was the youngest of 9 children and the last one to survive. He was married to Sophie "Pinky" (Fesser) Munday, they met while serving in the U S Navy. WW2 veterans, she was a Storekeeper 2nd class and he a Storekeeper/Petty Officer. After the service, they tried a move to New York where Pinky grew up but fled back to San Diego after the first winter! Gardner went into the floor covering trade and was a carpet layer/foreman for Raffee's Carpeting for many years. He belonged to the El Cajon Elks Lodge #1812, V.F.W., Lakeside Post #5867 and the Floor Covering Union Local 1711. He also was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Euclid for many years. He liked to camp, even had an RV for a time, was a good cook, could grow zucchini"s the length of your arm. He loved to dance, told us he had "lessons in the 6th grade" and "self taught", played the piano, guitar and harmonica by ear. He had a great sense of humor and was quite social as he proved to us while living at La Vida Real Senior Community in Rancho San Diego these last 8 years. He, the "unofficial" director, was well liked and loved by most staff & neighbors, that man loved people and a good happy hour! He is survived by his 2 daughters, Cheri (Munday) Papike (Rich Papike) and Bonnie (Munday) Rubin (John Rubin) and their families which include, 3 grandchildren, Chris Papike (Jenna Papike), Alex Papike, Nathan Rubin (Adam Pollack) and 6 great grandchildren, Luka ,Zoe, Skylar, Wes and Macy Papike plus Keina Gaylin. Interment location: Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, inurnment will take place on April 25th, 2016 at 11:30am where Gardner will once again be reunite with his beloved wife Pinky, who has been patiently waiting there for him since May of 2007. Together again.
