George was born in Washington DC to Frank and Elizabeth Sieckman on September 14, 1932. His family later moved to San Diego where he met and eventually married Joan, the love of his life, in 1954. They shared a special bond with one another that could never be broken. Together, they brought 5 children into the world which would ultimately end up creating a total of 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Family was George’s everything and he invested so much love into them.
George joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17, in which he served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired to San Diego in 1970, where he worked with the County of San Diego Department of Social Services for the remainder of his career.
He loved telling stories of his adventures while growing up and his time in the service. He had a passion for learning and love to share his vast knowledge about history and the universe with his children and grandchildren. It was always a delight to see his crooked smile when he would share a joke.
He is survived by his sons Richard and Jason Sieckman, daughters Cynthia Steward and Tamara Sieckman, his sisters Florence Hummel and Janet Pontbriand, and his brother Karl Sieckman. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joan, his son John Sieckman, his father and stepmother Frank and Grace Sieckman, his mother Elizabeth Sieckman, and his brother Frank Alan Sieckman.
Visitation and rosary will be held at the Erickson-Anderson Mortuary, 8390 Allison Avenue in La Mesa from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 3. Funeral service will be held at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 8086 Broadway in Lemon Grove on Friday February 4 at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the Serra Mesa Guest Home for their support in his final days.
