Jerry was born in San Diego and was the son of Thomas and Ruth Frosio. He grew up in Coronado and enjoyed all the outdoor recreational activities the small beach town offered. His family was well known throughout the community as his father (Thomas) and uncle (Al Frosio) provided electrical and plumbing services to the Hotel Del Coronado then subsequently co-owned Frosio Electrical and Plumbing serving all residents on the Island. Jerry’s mother was very active in the Catholic Church and won many awards for her beautifully landscaped gardens and flower arrangements.
Jerry served in the Army Air Corps as a medic in WWII. Once he returned to San Diego, he attended SDSU then began employment with SDG&E where he proudly served for 43 years, primarily as a Supervising Surveyor (Chief of Survey Party). He worked on major projects to bring electricity to back country communities throughout San Diego and sustainable energy to the region. After retirement, he cared for elderly friends and relatives and traveled throughout the US for sightseeing and genealogical research with his wife Dona. Jerry was also an active member of the La Mesa Police Department’s Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) for over a decade. In addition to regular patrol duties, he served on the RSVP’s color guard, supported the You Are Not Alone (YANA) program and projects supporting the community’s youth. Jerry was recognized with many awards for his service to the City of La Mesa.
Jerry was a gifted athlete and was one of the top ranked high school tennis players in San Diego. Throughout his life, he greatly enjoyed the outdoors including hiking and camping in San Diego area mountains and deserts with his family.
To quote Jerry, “family is everything.” He is pre-deceased by his brother, Eugene Frosio and daughter, Susan Hewitt. He is survived by, and missed more than words can express, by his wife of 56 years, Dona Frosio, daughter Patricia (Patty) Frosio, son Jeffrey (Jeff) and Daughter-In-Law Elizabeth (Liz) Frosio. Jerry is also survived by his Grandchildren Jera Cain, Kristen Frosio, Ph.D, Kaitlyn Bryant, Robert Frosio and Great-Grandson Emory Smith.
Jerry’s love, sense of humor, wisdom, guidance and dedication to family will continue to inspire his family and friends.
