Joe Nieves Linares born to Jose and Expedita Linares April 9th, 1930 in Wells, Nevada. Joe passed away peacefully November 15th, 2020 in La Mesa, CA. He was the youngest of 7 children and was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Connie Linares, Gilbert Linares, Ray Linares, Vincent Linares, Alfred Linares, and Lucy Cordova.
His love for his children never wavered and he was blessed with a large family. His cottage was adorned with pictures and many wonderful family memories. Joe is survived by his five children: David Nashlund (Nancy), Virginia Hargrave (Dennis), Edwin Linares (Robin), Nancy Heard and Cheri Linares-Crepeau (Brian). Also surviving are Joe’s 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 2 great, great-grandchildren.
Joe’s childhood was spent in many areas of Nevada before moving to Roseville, CA where he graduated Roseville High School, class of 1949. Joe maintained many wonderful friendships, some lifelong, with his classmates.
Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably as an Air Policeman in the Hq Dq 3535th AB Gp (ATRC). After some years in San Francisco and Sacramento he settled into the Fairfield-Suisun area where he worked and retired after 30 years from Pacific Gas & Electric. It was during this time he met his wife of 20 years, Mary Kathleen Bartley and her five kids. They were married in 1970 and Joe immediately became a father to all.
Joe was a loving family man and friend to all who knew him. His greatest times were spent enjoying the arts, fine wine and spirits. His travels took him to many countries, his favorite being the many months a year he would spend in Mazatlan, Mexico. There he formed many wonderful friendships. With a great smile and a joke, he was adored by all that met him.
Our dad was one of our greatest gifts and will be missed dearly by all his children. The world lost a special man and heaven gained one.
